Green Cleaning

It never occurred to me to make my own cleaning products which is funny because I love to make my own homeopathic sickness remedies. I always look for all natural “cures” to things when I’m not feeling well but never thought to use all natural ingredients to clean my house. Recently though I’ve started cleaning using vinegar and enjoy knowing that not only am I being green but it’s easy on the wallet also. So I thought I’d share some recipes…

White Vinegar
It gains it popularity as a household cleaner due to its
effectiveness at killing mold, bacteria, and germs.

Do not use vinegar on Marble because it can scratch it, and do not use on wood because it can strip it.

Drains: Clean drains and pipes by pouring vinegar down them, leave for 30 minutes and then flush with cold water. I like to do this after I do the dishes (the old school, by hand way) with some boiling water.

Glasses: For sparkling glassware, add 1 cup vinegar to the rinse water.

Moldy Walls: Spray vinegar on mold, after 15 minutes rinse and let dry.

Windows: Mix 1/4 cup vinegar with 2 cups of water. Spritz windows and wipe with newspaper.

Floors: Mix 1/4 cup vinegar with 4 litres (1 gallon) warm water.

Grime: Spritz full strength vinegar onto a cloth to cut grime.

Smelly Food Containers: Wipe with cloth dampened with full strength vinegar. For old milk (thermos, travel mug) fill container with full strength vinegar and leave overnight, wash and use in the morning.
